The Art of Letting Go: Embracing Freedom, Uncertainty, and Creative Discovery

I’m a figurative painter creating indirect storytelling pointing towards humanity and poetry –with a pinch of humor.

In 2021, I started painting because I wanted to take my drawings to the next level. I craved the challenge of creating illustrations where I couldn’t rely on a back button or a Command + Z function. Painting forced me to commit fully to each stroke and decision, pushing me to embrace imperfections and work creatively on top of them. There’s a certain freedom in knowing that there’s no going back, only moving forward and finding a way to build something better from what’s already there.

This process taught me the value of adaptability and persistence – the realization that mistakes aren’t dead ends, but opportunities to discover new directions. It mirrors my design approach, where exploration and the willingness to refine ideas without second-guessing are key. By stepping away from the digital world, I honed a deeper connection to my creative instincts, which now informs every project I take on.

Through painting, I’ve learned that true creativity thrives when we let go of control and trust the process, leading to results that are not only polished but also alive with unexpected depth and originality.

Story from exhibition at Galleri Låven:

Two men stood side by side, gazing at one of my paintings ("Segla for utan vind"). On the left was a local farmer, his clothes stained from hard work. On the right, a man in a crisp blue blazer and khaki chinos. Both silently studied the picture until the farmer quietly said, "Beautiful." The man in the blazer nodded, adding, "We’ve all been there." With that, a conversation unfolded—a shared reflection on life’s highs and lows. They were strangers moments before, but now, in this brief exchange, they found a connection that felt surprisingly deep and meaningful.

Like a great book, I aim to let the viewer create the story by not revealing too much. By being mindful of colors, elements, focus, and perspective, you can interpret the painting in your own way, which I hope will lead to an authentic feeling of connection.
